MD of Bonnyville No. 87, Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach, Summer Village of Pelican Narrows and Village of Glendon
At approximately 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 4, Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) fire crews from Station 5 (Bonnyville) and Station 3 (Glendon) responded to a brush fire on the north side of Highway 660 and Range Road 465. Upon arrival, it was identified that the fire was large and spreading quickly.
In response to the escalating situation, additional resources were dispatched from Alberta Forestry, M.D. of Bonnyville, and BRFA Stations 4 (Iron River), 6 (La Corey), and 7 (Fort Kent). Heavy equipment was mobilized and swiftly created a fire guard to contain the fire and prevent further spread. Air support was provided by three helicopters and an air-borne tanker. No structures were lost as a result of the quick response and efforts of all crews.
Crews continue to work during the day and throughout the night to control flareups and ensure the fire is extinguished. Due to the nature of the landscape and vegetation, access to some areas of the fire has been difficult. Equipment and resources are being established to gain access to these challenging areas.
BRFA has established an incident command post on site and is expected to continue operations for the coming days. We would like to thank the community members and local businesses for their assistance and support during this incident
